9:00- 12:30 Migration to Goal Mode: Why and How
Steve Samson
Candle Corporation, US

Now that an end to Compatibility Mode has been announced, just about everyone will be migrating to Workload Manager Goal Mode before 2002. This workshop shows how to do it with the least possible stress and disappointment.

We'll look at the special needs of several kinds of OS/390 workloads, and at the changes in WLM announced for delivery after the availability of Version 2 Release 10. If those attending wish to, we can also explore the mysteries of enclaves and scheduling environments. The handout will have all the material; we'll spend time on topics as the audience dictates.

Be prepared to discuss the special needs of your installation.

9:00 - 12:30 Capacity Planning: I Never Knew it Could be this Big!
Neil McMenemy
McMenemy Consultants, UK

This seminar gives an introduction to Capacity Planning by looking at is history and how it is relevant in today's IT world. The relationship between Capacity Planners and Application Programmers is examined while understanding how Capacity Planning fits into the Development Lifecycle, this is illustrated by a real user experience. The seminar goes on to give advice on how to go about collecting information to include in the Capacity Plan and then how to publish and present it with a detailed look at how graphs have a major influence on how the Plan is perceived.

Many Capacity Planners only go through the mundane day to day tasks of running SAS programs, producing the odd graph or report and never get involved in adding value to the organisation. This tutorial will open a few eyes to how Capacity Planning fits into the big I.T. picture and allows the attendees to go back to their own sites armed with a new understanding of their job.

In the seminar Neil will also discuss modelling and include a live demonstration of a neural network being trained.
