Program highlights
Dr Jeff Harmer, Managing Director for the Health Insurance Commission, will
provide the opening address for CMGA'99. Dr Harmer will talk about the role of the HIC in improving Australia's health through payments and information, and how IT is critical to this strategy.
Presentations by international speakers will begin with our storage
management stream. Minda Larson, one of our representatives from CMG US,
will present her paper on Snapshot technology titled "In the Blink of an
Eye: SnapShot implementation, usage and performance". Minda has over 18
years experience in IT, and as advisory engineer at StorageTek, conducts
performance testing and analysis of disk subsystems.
Raoul Blignaut, an expert in storage management from South Africa, will
give two presentations – "Advanced Raid Performance, where to from now" and "Evaluation of IT infrastructure". This will be followed by Steve Samson from Candle Corp presenting a late breaking paper titled "Real Storage Management in the 21st Century--Paging Still Matters". Amongst other things Steve is the author of the MVS Performance Management series.
In light of the growing trend in distributed computing, Adrian Cockroft,
senior staff engineer for Sun's Enterprise Engineering in the USA, will
provide a unique update on the UNIX front. In contrast to traditional CMGA
presentations, Adrian will present his award winning paper "UNIX CPU Time
Measurement Errors", as well as a late breaking paper for 1999.
Thomas Hintze, Telekom Austria, and Rafeal Wariwoda, Datakom Austria, will
jointly present Friday's opening plenary session titled "The Role of the
network for the IT department of a large enterprise; user report Telekom
Austria."
Rounding up the international speakers will be 1998 Mullen award winner
from the US, Wayne Wyrobek presenting "Tales from the Crypto", and two
presentations from Andrew Karp, International SAS performance 'guru'.
The remainder of the program features diverse presentations from local
speakers. Topics covered will include: remote copy user experiences; Software Asset Management (SAM); outsourcing; E-commerce and disaster recovery; capacity and performance presentations for OS/390; distributed systems and the Web; OS/390 and the CICS web interface; and the Internet. Included is a case study on the CMGA online journal - one of the first online journals of its type.
CMGA'99 will close with a look into the next chapter of the Internet. David
Triggs, E-commerce program manager for Hewlett Packard Australasia, will
present "The next E.E-services". With extensive experience in performance
analysis and benchmarking, OLTP systems design, Internet security and IT
strategy, David assists HP's major clients to benefit from the rapid growth
and development of the Internet. His experience and insight will surely
provide a fascinating finish to our conference.
Leading vendors will complement our great program with presentations and exhibitions that will allow conference delegates access to their latest products and solutions.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the social events will be the conference
dinner. A celebration of the second last CMGA conference for the millennium, our function at Sea World will not only be an ideal networking opportunity but also a guaranteed fun night for all involved.
Don't forget to keep an eye on our website for regular updates on the
conference. If you don't have access to the web, please contact the conference organiser to obtain updated conference information.
I look forward to meeting you at CMGA'99.
